As the technological spin-off of Solar Impulse, the first electric airplane to fly around the world, the mission of H55, is to make aviation clean, safe, and affordable.

The company’s strengths and competencies lie in developing propulsion and energy storage solutions which are modular, lightweight, and certifiable.

Having integrated and flown 4 electric airplanes, the Swiss start-up has been selected by Pratt & Whitney Canada to provide the battery pack for its regional hybrid-electric flight demonstrator. This recent announcement is a further illustration of H55’s position as a major enabler in the electric commuter market.

About the role

In the frame of its product development (Electric Propulsion System and Modular Battery Pack), H55 is searching for a Power Electronics Engineer to work on the Motor controller. 

You will report directly to the Platform Team Leader.

You will be responsible for:

  • Participate in the definition of the H55 Electric aircraft Motor Controller
  • Design, simulate, and validate power electronic circuits.
  • Issue well-refined electronics design (Based on Calculation note, simulation, de-risking test)
  • Provide guidelines and follow-up electronics board layout
  • Peer review of electronics design and layout issued by other Engineers
  • Perform component selection and sizing  based on project requirements
  • Participate in test plans definition and procedures to verify the functionality, safety, and compliance of the power electronics systems.
  • Implement control algorithms for power electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and debug power electronics boards and modules using various test equipment and tools
  • Conduct thorough testing and validation of power electronic systems, ensuring they meet specified performance and safety standards.
  • Prepare detailed design documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, and technical reports in collaboration with other engineers and project managers and according to company processes.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in power electronics and propose innovative solutions to enhance our products.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering or related field
  • First professional experience with Power electronics
  • Experience in power electronics design, simulation, testing, and debugging
  • Experience in analog/digital electronics design would be an asset
  • Experience in layout of mixed electronics would be an asset
  • Knowledge of power electronic devices, converters, inverters, rectifiers, filters, and controllers
  • Knowledge of motor control would be an asset 
  • Familiarity with electrical and magnetic materials, circuit-solving methods, and EMC standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Experience in aircraft hardware using DO160 & DO254 standards would be an asset
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-loop environment would be an asset
  • Fluet English, French is a plus, but not mandatory
